MagicBand+ skins and the park sensors
The first question everyone asks before putting anything on a MagicBand+ is whether it will still work at the gate. It will. Here is why, what the skin covers and leaves open, and how to make it last the whole trip.

Why the tap points still read it
A MagicBand+ talks to the park through short-range radio: you hold the band to a touch point at the entry gate, a ride queue or a shop and it reads through the plastic of the band itself. Printed vinyl is about 0.2 mm thick and no more of an obstacle than the band's own shell, which is the same reason a phone skin never stops tap-to-pay or wireless charging.
The same goes for the parts that react to the shows and the statues around the park. Nothing in the skin blocks a radio signal.
What the skin covers, and what it leaves open
The skin wraps the puck and the band around it. The light-up face is left clear so the colors still show during the night shows, the charging port stays open, and the clasp is untouched. Pick MagicBand+ or MagicBand 2 when you order and the skin is cut to that band; the original 2013 MagicBand is a different shape and not one we cut today.
- Covered: the puck and the band around it, in the design you pick.
- Open: the light-up face, the charging port, the clasp.
- Fits: MagicBand+ and MagicBand 2 (chosen at checkout).
Applying it, and taking it off
Wipe the band with a little isopropyl alcohol, let it dry, and lay the skin on from the face outward, smoothing as you go. A hair dryer on low for a few seconds helps the vinyl hug the curve of the band; press the edges once more after it cools. It holds up through rain and water rides, and when the trip is over it peels off clean, so a second design for the next trip is an easy habit.
Browse every design on the Disney MagicBand+ skins page. MagicBand+ skins are $14.95, light enough to mail in a card, and a natural park-trip gift. Compatible with MagicBand+; not affiliated with Disney.
Questions people ask
- Will my MagicBand+ still work at the entry gate and ride touch points?
- Yes. The skin is thin printed vinyl, and radio signals pass through it the same way they pass through the band's own plastic shell.
- Does the skin cover the lights?
- No. The light-up face is left clear, so the band still glows and changes color with the shows.
- Can I still charge the band with the skin on?
- Yes. The charging port is left open.
- Does it fit the MagicBand 2 as well as the MagicBand+?
- Both. Choose the band you have when you order. The original 2013 MagicBand is a different shape and not one we cut today.
- Can I change the design for the next trip?
- Yes. The skin peels off clean with no residue, so you can swap designs as often as you like.
